Is Economic Confidence Rising in Thailand?

This week Bloomberg ran an article indicating Thailand’s consumer confidence has risen to its highest in 21 months. 

The article suggests 2010 has seen a continuation of steadily improving confidence throughout Thailand. 

“An index measuring sentiment advanced to 71.9 last month from 70.4 in December, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce said in Bangkok today. The gauge tracks a nationwide survey of 2,245 respondents.”

Time For Business To Engage As Social Media Overtakes Search Engines In Australia

Those who think social networking, and Twitter in particular, are just trends take note of new figures from Hitwise who last week reported that more Australians used social networking than search engines during the Christmas 2009. 

During the week of Christmas (week ending 26 December 2009) the Social Networking and Forum industry category overtook Search Engines share of visits for the very first time. While this looked like a short term lead, we are now seeing continued growth of Social Networking and Forums to now sit just 0.4% share behind Search Engines in week ending 16 January 2010.

PayPal Goes Mobile; Square Shows Future For Mobile Payments

PayPal goes with eBay like bacon goes with eggs (or ice cream goes with bread in Thailand), but now the company that brought confidence to internet payments has turned its attention to mobile users in Asia-Pacific. 

Yesterday PayPal announced that its “new mobile application is now available to iPhone, BlackBerry and Android phone users in APAC”, with Thailand included. The app is downloadable from respective app stores while the company has also announced WAP support for other mobile devices.
